The NW-AGA Legacy and Legends Programme recognises archers who demonstrate exceptional long-term commitment, loyalty, sportsmanship and continuous active participation in NW-AGA archery. Unlike awards based primarily on scores or podium positions, Legacy and Legends recognises the years of dedication behind an archer’s journey and rewards those who continue to participate consistently at NW, Provincial and National level.
 

The Awards
 

4 Years – Commitment Award
Recognising four consecutive qualifying years of active participation.
 

6 Years – Dedication Award
Recognising six consecutive qualifying years of sustained commitment to NW-AGA archery.
 

8 Years – Excellence Award
Recognising eight consecutive qualifying years of exceptional consistency, loyalty and participation.
 

10 Years – Legend Award
The highest standard award within the programme, recognising an extraordinary decade of continuous commitment to NW-AGA archery.
 

Each award is received once only. Archers then continue working towards the next level. Where an archer eventually exceeds ten consecutive qualifying years, the case will be individually reviewed by the appointed Legacy and Legends Official, and recognition will be awarded accordingly.
 

Who Can Qualify?
 

The programme is open to eligible NW-AGA archers from Grade 4 through to adult AAG archers. Archers must be affiliated with a recognised NW-AGA school, club or unit. Archers affiliated with or representing another province are not eligible. Changing schools, clubs or Units within North West does not interrupt the qualifying period, provided NW-AGA membership and participation remain continuous.
 

Qualifying Years – Effective From 2022
 

For the purpose of the Legacy and Legends Programme, qualifying participation can only be calculated from the 2022 AGA season onwards. No membership, competition participation or years prior to 2022 will be considered or included when calculating an archer’s qualifying period. This means that 2022 is the earliest possible starting year for any Legacy and Legends record, regardless of how many years an archer participated in AGA before that date.

All qualifying years must be continuous and consecutive. If an archer voluntarily stops participating and later returns, the qualifying period begins again.
 

Annual Qualification Requirements
 

For every qualifying year, an archer must:

• be a registered and fully paid-up AGA member;

• remain actively affiliated with a recognised NW-AGA Unit;

• participate in at least four qualifying NW-AGA competitions;

• participate separately in the NW Provincial Championship;

• participate separately in the recognised AGA-SA National Championship; and

• remain in good standing with the Unit, NW-AGA and AGA-SA.
   

Competition Requirement
 

Four NW-AGA competitions + NW Provincials + SA Nationals

Provincials and Nationals are additional to the four required competitions and cannot be counted as part of the four. Competitions in other provinces or countries do not count unless specifically approved by the appointed Legacy and Legends Official. Participation in SA Nationals is compulsory during every qualifying year. An archer who does not qualify for, enter or participate in Nationals does not earn a qualifying year. The same applies to the required NW Provincial Championship and four qualifying NW-AGA competitions.
 

Sportsmanship and Conduct
 

Recipients are expected to uphold the values of honesty, sportsmanship, respect and responsible conduct. Verified score irregularities, dishonesty, serious misconduct or formal disciplinary action may result in an archer being considered ineligible. The final decision regarding eligibility remains subject to verification and approval by the appointed Legacy and Legends Official.
 

Official Records and Verification
 

Each Unit Organiser is responsible for monitoring qualifying archers and submitting the required records when an archer reaches an award level. Only official NW-AGA membership records and official competition or results records will be accepted as proof. Personal records, private score sheets, photographs, spreadsheets or other unofficial records will not be accepted. If the required official records cannot be produced or verified for a qualifying year, that year cannot be accepted and the archer cannot qualify for the relevant award. The appointed Legacy and Legends Official verifies eligibility and maintains the official NW-AGA Legacy and Legends Register.
 

Exceptional Circumstances
 

Where an official qualifying event is cancelled or participation is affected by exceptional circumstances outside the archer’s reasonable control, the appointed Legacy and Legends Official may consider the matter individually.

Exceptions are not automatic and do not apply simply because an archer failed to qualify for or attend a required event.
 

Recognition
 

Legacy and Legends Awards are presented annually during an official prizegiving as determined by NW-AGA and may include a certificate, medal, badge, plaque or other commemorative award. If an archer qualifies for more than one award level when recognition is first introduced, only the highest verified award achieved will be presented.
 

Programme Review
 

NW-AGA reserves the right to review or amend the programme requirements where changes to competition structures, AGA regulations or other relevant circumstances make this necessary.
